Day 03: Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m/3020ft)
Duration: 6 hours
Your guide will meet you early in the morning and transport you to Pokhara. The drive is long yet lovely and intriguing. Upon arrival, you will be transported to the Pokhara hotel for check-in. In the evening, you may go boating on Fewa Lake and capture the reflection of Mount Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna Range in the calm lake.
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom (2700m/8855ft) - Trek to Kagbeni (2800m/9185ft)
Duration: 3 hours
We will fly to Jomsom early in the morning, passing over the snow-covered peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. The scenery of towering massifs reaching more than 8,000 meters and the river with the world's deepest canyon is just breathtaking. At Jomsom, we will begin our Upper Mustang trip to Kagbeni. This is the major gate to Upper Mustang, located at an elevation of (2,800m). Kagbeni settlement dates back to the 14th century when it was a checkpoint for traders from Nepal. There is still a checkpoint to control the parties leaving for Muktinath and Mustang.
Day 05: Kagbeni to Chele (3110m/10200ft)
Duration: 5-6 hours
The route leads to the east bank of the Kaligandaki River. We go across numerous mountains to the Tangbe settlement. This town is a maze of tiny lanes lined with whitewashed cottages and fields of buckwheat, barley, wheat, and apple orchards. We can observe the Nilgiri peak, which dominates Kagbeni's southern skyline. After approximately an hour and a half of walking beyond Tangbe, we will arrive in Chhusang village. We cross the river and proceed up to a massive red boulder of conglomerate that has fallen from the cliffs above, creating a tunnel through which the Kaligandaki runs. We leave the Kali Gandaki valley and climb hard up a rocky gorge to reach Chele.
Day 06: Trek to Geling (3500m/11480ft)
Duration: 5-6 hours
Today, we'll climb the treeless, waterless landscape along the edge of a beautiful steep canyon to a rock cairn at 3540 meters. The route then begins a long steady downhill to Samar Village. The Annapurna, still dominated by Nilgiri, can be seen far to the south. We'll ascend over Samar to a ridge before descending into a wide valley. The route continues through another valley field, passes a creek, and climbs to a ridge at 3800 meters. The trail crosses another pass, follows a ridge, and descends to Shyangmochen. From here, we slowly ascend to a pass at 3770m before descending into Geling Village.
Day 07: From Geling to Charang (3620m/11875ft)
Duration: 4 hours
From Geling, the route slowly ascends to the intriguing NYI La pass before descending beneath the blue, gray, and red rocks. We cross the Tangmar Chu (river) steel bridge and arrive at Mustang's longest Mani wall. We ascend over another hill at 3,600 meters and begin the long, calm descent to Charang settlement. The enormous five-story white Dzong and crimson Gompa are the main attractions here. We can also see sculptures, thanks, and other huge paintings of the sitting Buddha.
Day 08: Charang to Lo-Manthang (3840m/12595ft)
Duration: 3 hours
Our trail gradually ascends to Lo-Gekar. Lo-Gekar Gompa is older than Samye Gompa in Tibet. It is one of the oldest Gompas in the area. After seeing Lo-Gekar, we continue our upper Mustang journey to Lo-Manthang. The trail to Lo-Manthang is well-defined and includes some mild elevation. Along the trail, we will pass the walled city of Lo before descending briefly, crossing a creek, and ascending to the Lo-Manthang plateau.
Day 09: Explore Namgyal Gompa - Tingkhar
Duration: 4-6 hours
We'll climb for two hours to Namgyal Gompa. This is located on a mountaintop and is a significant monastery for the surrounding community. It also supports a local court. After seeing Namgyal Gompa, we continue our excursion to Tingkhar. This is the last settlement to the northwest of Lomanthang, with around 40 dwellings. After touring both locations, we'll return to Lomanthang.
Day 10: Lo-Manthang to Drakmar (3820m/12530ft)
Duration: 6-7 hours
Today's path climbs slowly and provides a final look of Lo Manthang before ascending a ridge at 4070m and continuing to Chogo La (4210m/13810ft). This is the highest point of our Upper Mustang trek. The route then has a short, steep descent and crosses the Charang River. We will ascend to Lo Geker and visit Ghar Gompa, a tiny monastery. We next climb the mountain, pass a valley and alpine meadows, and descend a rocky, degraded trail to Drakmar.
Day 11: Drakmar to Shyangmochen (3800m/12465 ft)
Duration: 5-6 hours
The route now declines, past the stone walls and farms of Drakmar before ascending to a hill. It then descends to the lower section of Jaite (3820m) before falling back to Chhung-Kah. We proceed to Tama Gaon (3710 meters) and then descend to Shyangmochen.
Day 12: Shiyangbochen to Chhusang (2980m/9775ft)
Duration: 6 hours
Our lengthy journey now continues along a creek to Chhusang. We can also take an alternate route to Samar and explore Ranchung Cave. The alternate approach is only 30 minutes longer.
Day 13: Chusang to Muktinath (3800m/12465ft)
Duration: 7 hours
Today we will follow the stream, pass through Chhusang hamlet, and make a short hard rise to the valley level. We continue rising till we reach a little pass through which we can view Muktinath and the red-painted Buddhist monasteries. After crossing the pass, we descend to the creek and cross on a suspension bridge. We rise for a bit before walking through the villages to Muktinath. This path is renowned for the fossil stone "Saligrams," which are mostly discovered between Tetang and Gyu La Pass (4077m). It also provides an excellent 140-degree vista of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Tukuche Himalayan ranges.
Day 14: Muktinath to Jomsom (2700m/8855ft)
Duration: 6 hours
Muktinath is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists alike. In the morning, we shall go to Muktinath Temple. We can see the spectacular vistas of Dhaulagiri Peak from here. There are water spouts that lead into the stream above the temple. There is also a Buddhist monastery nearby. Our route descends via the town of Jharkot, where we may visit the Jharkot monastery, which is both a Tibetan herbal medical facility and a historic stronghold. We continue our journey back to Jomsom. The vistas of Kaligandaki valley and Kagbeni village along the route are very breathtaking. We travel via Ekle Bhatti before arriving in Jomsom, where we may celebrate the trek's accomplishment with the rest of the trekking personnel.
Day 15: Fly to Pokhara
We'll fly back to Pokhara early in the morning. The day may be spent visiting this gorgeous lakeside town as your mood strikes you.
