Overview – Takht-i-Bahi Tour
The ancient remains of Takht-i-Bahi in Pakistan are a hidden historical gem waiting to be unearthed by archaeologists and history buffs. Takht-i-Bahi is a popular tourist destination due to its historic significance. Furthermore, this Buddhist monastery has some of the most important artifacts from the Gandhara culture. The structure is placed in a peaceful area, making it a delight for travelers who can appreciate the rich history and attractive surroundings. The place gained its name from the two wells on the hills. “Takht” means top, and “Bahi” means spring, resulting in “a spring emerging from the top.” In contrast, academics believe that the Persian word “Takht-i-Bahi” means “throne of water springs”. Two springs ran through the crest of the mountainous slope where the monastery was located, so the name seems appropriate.
This massive stone structure, dating back to the first century AD, is one of the world’s most well-built and preserved Buddhist temples.
Pakistan has six UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Buddhist ruins of Takht-i-Bahi and Shahr-i-Bahlol. The popular Buddhist Complex in Pakistan was added to the list in 1980.
