Overview – Shaigri Peak Climbing Expedition
The Shaigri Peak adventure begins in the Astore Valley, which serves as a gateway to numerous hiking routes, including Shaigri, Mazeno Pass (a round trip around Nanga Parbat), and the well-known Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat, which normally begins in Tarashing. Climbers will appreciate the fact that no permits or climbing fees are necessary.
Shaigri Peak, located in the far western Himalayas next to the famed Nanga Parbat, rises sharply from the southern end of the Rupal Valley to an astonishing height of almost 5700 meters, standing approximately 2000 meters above the valley floor. Rupal Peak sits to the east of Shaigiri Peak, while to the west is the enormous Rupal Glacier, which descends from Nanga Parbat. Shaigri Mountain has a remarkable pyramidal shape while being under the shadow of its imposing neighbor, the world’s ninth-tallest mountain.
Shaigri Peak, visible from practically every vantage point in the Rupal Valley, is seldom climbed, but its base camp at 3655 meters is a popular rest stop for trekkers, mountaineers, and local herders. Visitors to this base camp may enjoy amazing views of the majestic Rupal Face and the steep Mazeno Wall of Nanga Parbat, providing a truly remarkable and unique experience in the harsh grandeur of the Himalayas.
