Itinerary – Roghili Gol Trek
The itinerary for Roghili Gol Trek is given below.
Day 02: Drive to Chitral - Hotel
Travel from Islamabad to the breathtaking Chitral Valley via the Swat Motorway. After a quick pause at the Swat Motorway Rest Area, continue driving along the N-45 highway, taking in the natural beauty of the surrounding environment. You will pass through the magnificent Lowari Tunnel on your way to Chitral. Finally, if arrive in Chitral Valley, you may immerse yourself in its rich cultural legacy and breathtaking scenery. The estimated travel time from Islamabad to Chitral is around 9 to 10 hours. Explore Chitral's attractions, including the Shahi Mosque, Shahi Qila, the Polo Ground, Governor Cottage, and the Chitral Museum.
Day 03: Drive to Izghor
The drive from Chitral to Izghor typically takes about 1½ hours. Driving from Chitral to Izghor is an interesting excursion via breathtaking terrain and natural beauty. After leaving the busy city of Chitral, you'll be surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Chitral District. As you travel through the twisting roads and mountain passes, you'll come across gorgeous villages and valleys, each with its distinct character and charm. Along the journey, you'll be able to stop and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Day 04: Izghor to Lochuk
A huge spring emerges from the rocks just north of Izghor (2225m), the valley's second hamlet. An open, grassy camping area is located near where the road crosses the spring-fed brook. When you arrive in Izghor from Chitral in the morning, stroll to Lochuk during the late afternoon shadows. Follow the true left bank of the Roghili stream up a nice but steep trail through a deep cedar forest. The clear stream, which was huge in early summer, had receded by July. In 134 hours, you'll arrive to Molassi's huts in a mixed pine and cedar forest. In 15 minutes, cross an alluvial fan and a wood footbridge across a stream to reach Lochuk's (2640m) magnificent, level, grassy woodland area and shelters. The views down the valley and to the north-west from Tirich Mir are breathtaking. Uncontrolled tree cutting in these gorgeous, but limited, forests for timber, fuel wood and field cleaning is obvious. The people of Izghor have realized that if the current rate of devastation continues, no forest would be left for their children.
Day 05: Lochuk to Buthijhal
Continue up the trail through the pine forest, passing other cabins along the way. The forest will be gone in fifteen minutes. Ibex herds live in Kundar Gol, a side stream to the east. Livestock overgrazing is obvious. Continue up the steep route along the true left bank of the Roghili Gol until the trail fades. Many of the willows that line the creek have been nibbled down by goats. Buthijhal (3030 m) takes between one and eleven hours to reach. West of the stream, big birch trees (buthi) can be seen. Buthijhal also functions as a grazing area and includes a few bungalows. Canals on both sides of the valley may be mistaken for paths.
Day 06: Buthijhal to Lut Chhat
In 15 minutes, you'll pass through another little farming zone with a few homes at the base of cliffs, right in the path of a possible rock fall and avalanche. For one hour, climb hard debris to a few scattered birch trees (3240m) on a rise. Continue up the valley, narrowing and heading southwest. Pass down the narrow canyon (tang) to reach the first of two aqua lakes, Tsak Chhat (3682 m), 112 to two hours from Buthijhal. The trail climbs the true left (west) side of the creek for 1.25 kilometres to the second lake, Lut Chhat (3765m). Beyond the lake, there are two tough passes: Roghili Gree and Roghili An.
Jughor
Jughor hamlet is located near the mouth of the Jughor Gol, south and across the river from Chitral town. Plan to go to Jughor the day before you begin organising any trips. There are four challenging passes near the valley's head: two south to Shishi Gol and two east, one to Koghozi Gol and the other to Roghili Gol.
Walk up the valley from Jughor to a cabin at Chhato Shal (3048m), where the trail intersects with the true left bank. Continue for another 750 metres until a trail intersection (3161 metres). One road ascends the Kapashung Gol to the passes leading to Shishi Gol, while the other ascends the Bungolbahan Gol to the remaining two.
The Kapashung Gol path divides Father Valley. The trail to the southeast passes through Domukh An (4380m) and leads to Kalas in Shishi Gol. The road to the south follows the true right bank of the Kapashung Gol for three km, via the highest branch, to Kapashung Gree (4318m), which also flows into Shishi Gol.
The east route up Bungolbahan Gol takes the true left (south) bank and offers two options. To begin, travel 3 kilometres down the valley from the 3161m trail intersection and bridge the river. A difficult 500m ascent north leads to Koghozi An (4480m), followed by a steep drop into the Koghozi Valley and Koghozi hamlet on the Chitral-Gilgit route. This is a tough Class 3 cross-country route.
Second, continue half a kilometre northeast along the true left bank of the Bungolbahan Gol to Roghili Gree (4638m). Then it's an 850-meter scree descent into the upper Roghili Gol basin. The basin is labelled Angarbah on the Chitral (I-42 F) sheet, but the people are unfamiliar with the term. Follow the south bank of a creek for 8 kilometres northeast to the lake Lut Chhat (3764 metres). You can descend Roghili Gol from a trail junction 500m above the lake by crossing the stream that feeds the lake and contouring along its north side (see the Roghili Gol climb). You could also cross Roghili An.
A Roghili
From Lut Chhat in the upper Roghili Gol, a route leads to Madaglasht in Shishi Gol via the Roghili An (4496m). Continue along Lut Chhat's north and west shores. Continue 500 metres beyond the lake and cross the stream on its south side. Two pathways separate here, one to the Roghili An and the other to the more difficult Roghili Gree (see Jughor above). The steep route to Roghili An (4496m) follows a southeast turn and ascends a stony ridge to Madaglasht in Shishi Gol.
Day 07: Lut Chhat to Izghor
You may easily return to Izghor from the lakes.
Day 08: Drive to Chitral
The 1½ hour trip from Izghor to Chitral is lovely, passing through valleys and magnificent vistas. The journey from Izghor to Chitral passes through some of the region's most picturesque terrains and valleys. Along the route, you'll see the natural beauty and diversity that Chitral is known for. It's a voyage that highlights the area's great scenery and natural treasures, providing an unforgettable experience.
Day 09: Explore Chitral - Kalash valley
On this day
Begin your exploration by visiting the Shahi Mosque and Shahi Qila, two of the city's most renowned attractions. The mosque is recognized for its exquisite construction, and the Qila (fort) provides insight into Chitral's rich past. Don't miss the bustling bazaars, where you may buy traditional handicrafts and souvenirs.
Visit the region's natural splendor, head out to the picturesque valleys around Chitral. The Kalash Valley is known for its distinct Kalasha culture, whilst the Bumburet Valley provides breathtaking vistas of lush foliage and crystal-clear waterways.
Day 10: Drive to Islamabad - Hotel
The travel from Chitral to Islamabad usually takes 9 to 10 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The journey is picturesque, traversing through high terrain and providing stunning vistas along the way. Make sure to stop in any of the attractive villages and towns along the way, such as Dir and Swat, to enjoy the region's natural splendor. Once in Islamabad, you may visit the city's various attractions, such as the Faisal Mosque, Daman-e-Koh, and Lok Virsa Museum.
Day 11: Contingency day for potential delays
We also have a contingency day in your travel arrangements in the event of unanticipated delays. This entails setting aside an additional day for your vacation so that you may change your itinerary if necessary. This might be due to inclement weather, road closures, or unforeseen occurrences during your route. Apricot Tours' Social Responsibility |
1 foreign trekker = 5 trees |
Apricot Tours will plant five trees for every foreign trekker who visits Pakistan for trekking to Nanga Parbat. The trees will be planted in the northern areas of Pakistan starting from 2019 as part of our CSR initiative. We aim to contribute to "Goal 13: Climate Action" of UN's Sustainable Development Goals by taking part in the massive government campaign to plant 10 billion trees during the next five years to tackle climate change. Pakistan's adverse climate impacts are very much visible through changing temperatures, prolonged droughts, increased floods and extreme weather conditions especially in Pakistan's mountain regions. Pakistan stands 7th on the list of countries that are mostly likely to be affected by global warming and has one of the highest deforestation rates in Asia. Decades of tree felling have reduced the country's forests to less than 3 percent of its total land area. How planting trees will make a difference? Planting trees will help save energy and money, cool our cities, reduce carbon emissions, reduce soil erosion, provide habitat for species of many kinds, provide clean water and add to the beauty of Pakistan's mountain region by simply being there. Our participants can also donate separately. Details on this initiative can be requested. |
