Itinerary – Pamir Highway Car Rental

The itinerary for the Pamir Highway Car Rental is given below.

On this Day

Distance: 210 km
Duration: 4-5 hrs
Hike: 2-3 hrs

The trip from Kalai Khum to Rushan brings passengers through some of Tajikistan's most spectacular and inaccessible regions, delivering breathtaking natural beauty and one-of-a-kind cultural experiences. The Panj River valley is defined by rocky cliffs, terraced farmland, and traditional villages, offering an insight into the daily lives of the locals. This path is part of the famed Pamir Highway, a high-altitude road that runs across the Pamir Mountains.

When you arrive in Rushan, you will take a side trip to the Bartang Valley, which is one of the most wild and evocative valleys in the Western Pamir Mountains. Even the Pamiri see the Bartang valley as maybe the most archetypal part of their homeland. You will drive to the intersection of the Jizev side valley and trek up for around 2-3 hours to Jizev Village. Today, you'll spend the night in a typical Pamir house and learn about local mountain life.

On this Day

Driving Distance: 100 km
Duration: 3-4 hrs
Trekking 1-2 hrs

In the morning, you will climb down and continue your journey to Khorog while admiring the views of Afghanistan. Khorog is perhaps one of the world's smallest cities. It is bordered by rocky mountains on all sides. The city was created at the junction of three rivers: the Shokhdara, Gund, and Panj rivers. A large number of Pamiris have blond hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. The Pamir Mountains are the world's highest inhabited mountains, following the Himalayas in Tibet. Local traditions have altered as a result of living in the highlands. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore the small city of Khorog at your own.

On this Day

Distance: 260 km
Duration: 7-8 hrs

We continue our journey toward the Wakhan Valley. Wakhan, as it was known, acted as a buffer zone between the Russian and British empires during the nineteenth century. Pamir, located in the center of Asia, is a land of skyscrapers, snow-capped majestic mountains, clear blue lakes and rivers, huge valleys, and parched deserts. For hundreds of years, people have referred to the world's highest mountains as the "Roof of the World". Today, you'll understand why. On the route, we'll stop at the Kah-Kakha fortification, which dates back to the third century. A breathtaking vista of the Afghan side of the Wakhan awaits you here. On our way to Wakhan, we'll take a diversion uphill to explore the Yamchun fortifications and then continue downhill to the Bibi Fatima hot spring. In Yamg village, we will see the restored home of Sufi mystic Mubarak Kadam, who died in 1910. Near this house is a stone pillar with a hole where he calculated the solar calendar. Another stop will be in Vrang village. This is a Buddhist complex dating from the fourth to seventh centuries.

On this Day

Distance: 150 km
Duration: 4-5 hrs

In the morning, we'll continue traveling through the Khargush Valley. On the way, you'll pass via the Khargush pass (4344 meters). The Murghab region is home to two of the most magnificent lakes in the Pamirs: Yashilkul and Bulunkul, which are 3,700 meters above sea level. The water in Bulunkul is a lovely blend of purple and blue under the sunlight. Such fish are abundant in the lake. Yaks, a unique kind of domestic animal with characteristics similar to cows and sheep, were originally employed as beasts of burden as well as for milk and meat products. In the afternoon, you will get to know the locals and go for a walk around the lakes by yourself.

On this Day

Distance: 170 km
Duration: 4-5 hrs

In the morning, you will hike for 2-3 hours around the lakes before driving to Murgab. They say in the Pamirs: "To arrive here and not see Murgab is like not visiting the Pamirs at all." After all, "the Roof of the World" refers to Murgab. In the morning, we'll drive to this town. On the way, you'll cross over the Naizatash Pass (4,137 meters). There are dozens of peaks with absolute altitudes greater than 6,000 meters above sea level on the flat landscape of Lonely Murgab. Visitors sometimes compare Murghab's terrain to the surface of the Moon, experiencing the area through the eyes of an outsider. Indeed, this comparison emphasizes the unrivaled experience of being in Murghab, as well as the location's uniqueness. Murghab has an Arctic-like climate due to its barren location and high altitude.

On this Day

Distance: 160 km
Duration: 4-5 hrs

The light-blue lake of Karakul (3, 815 m) is located right on the Pamir Tract route and can be translated as "The Black Lake". On the approach to the lake, you will pass via the highest pass, Ak Baital (4,655 m). Karakul is the world's highest big mountain lake, excluding those in Tibet and Titicaca. The lake is located in a meteorite crater and is bordered by swampy, wet meadows and bogs with diverse flora and fauna, including some rare species.
Flooding, melting permafrost, and buried ice sheets modify the landscape, resulting in little hillocks and a diverse network of minor creeks and water courses between 3,500 and 4,000 meters. Wild and farmed ungulates graze the lush plant cover. In the afternoon, you'll go on a short stroll around the lake.

On this Day

Distance: 290 km
Duration: 6-7 hrs

Today we will drive to the Kyrgyz border and then transfer you to Osh city. The journey will pass through breathtaking mountains and steep passes. On the way, you will travel via Taldik, a high mountain pass. It is 3 615 meters tall! You'll never forget the breathtaking vistas of the road and the surrounding mountains. Kyrgyzstan has 93% of its land covered by mountains, and nomadic living in distant areas makes it a true paradise for anyone who enjoys mountains and strange cultures. The tour takes you along roads that snake through breathtaking gorges. During the day, expect breathtaking views of the majestic mountains and gorges. This is the end of the voyage!
