Overview – Indus Kayak and Canoe Expedition
The Indus River kayaking excursion is a 7-9-day kayaking and exploring experience that begins in Skardu and ends in Gilgit. The Indus River Kayaking Expedition starts at the end of May. In October, the flow was a more acceptable 20,000 cfs, but the water was still forceful, and the one huge rapid remained tough. The Indus River Kayaking Expedition will begin at Skardu town and will continue until the Indus is joined by several tiny rivers, including the Shyok River, Hushe River, Thalle River, and Shigar River, as we go from Skardu to Gilgit.
All travel and kayaking will occur during the day, with overnight stays in hotels along the route or at protected campsites. A logistic support vehicle with air conditioning and a 4×4 Jeep will travel by road and meet the expedition party at pre-determined overnight stops. The winter season is the optimum time to travel in this section of the Indus River since the water level is low and the water discharge is lower. These conditions are ideal for rafting downstream.
