Overview – Karl Marx Peak Expedition
Most people who travel along the famed Pamir Highway fall in love with the stunning snowcapped summits that tower over 6000 meters above the road on both sides. The majority of these virgin summits are located near the road, which appeals to those who enjoy high alpine mountaineering. Following our customers’ feedback, we decided to combine the classic jeep journey along the Pamir Highway with hard ascents to 6000m and higher peaks.
Karl Marx Peak (6726 m) is one of the most picturesque and highest peaks in Tajikistan’s South-Western Pamir region of the Shakhdara range. The first ascent was achieved by Soviet alpinists in 1946. The most difficult path is along the northern 2-kilometre-high wall. The classic and easiest path runs along the south-western ridge. There are many beautiful, simple, and intriguing peaks for acclimatization around the Base Camp, including the well-known Engels Peak 6510 m, Churlenis Peak 5794 m, Danilaytis Peak 5837 m, and others, many of which are 5-6 kilometers high.
The optimal season to run this trek is from mid-July to the end of September, as the route is generally at elevations of 4000 – 6000 meters and requires the usage of mountaineering gear and previous climbing experience.
To participate in this trek, you must be physically healthy because you will be carrying some of the food, equipment, and personal belongings yourself. Porters can be hired, but they must be condemned ahead of time. Pack animals will only be utilized for the first three days of the walk before entering the glacial surface; thereafter, the group will carry the luggage between camps. The hike needs many river crossings.
During the ascent, we utilize four camps: BC at 3800m, C2 at 4300m, C3 at 5300m, and C4 at 5900m.
