Day 02: Sarytag to Dukdon Pass
On this Day
Distance: 10 km
We depart Sarytag, and with it, the last remnants of civilization. The first portion of the day is a leisurely stroll along the Karakul River through a lush valley. The path eventually leads to the foot of the trek's first major pass, Dukdon Pass. Today takes us up to a height of around 3100 meters, where we pitch up camp. Prepare for a frigid night at the highest campground on this journey.
Day 03: Crossing Dukdon Pass (3805 m)
On this Day
Distance: 11 km
Today symbolizes the literal pinnacle of the journey. Walking up to Dukdon Pass raises us to an elevation of 3805 meters. The pass offers a panoramic view of the mountains to the west and east. Following a well-deserved break, we continue down the pass's western edge, which typically requires traversing some small ice fields. The descent goes into the valley of the Archamaidan River. The overnight tent is built up along the river at approximately 3000 meters.
Day 04: Archamaidan Valley
On this Day
Distance: 14 km
Compared to the previous days, the fifth day's hike is comparatively easy. The journey continues down the valley, following the banks of the Archamaidan River. As we descend, the valley becomes more occupied. We pitch our tents again along the Archamaidan River for the night.
Day 05: Back trek to Zimtut
On this Day
Distance: 14 km
On day five, we continue our descent through the Archamaidan Valley. We travel through a few tiny settlements on the route. We complete the day in Zimtut village, where we will spend the night in a guesthouse. This is the trek's lowest point, at around 1550 meters.
Day 06: Trek to Chukurak Lake
On this Day
Distance: 12 km
From the start of the day, the path leads upward to Guitan Pass at an elevation of 2650 meters. The entire height difference of the climb exceeds 1000 meters, making it a hard trip. The hike continues on a flat path from the top of the pass before plunging to the lovely Chukurak Lake (2430 meters). The Chukurak Lake is perfect for a relaxing swim. The night is spent in tents along the shores of Chukurak Lake.
Day 07: Hike to Kulikalon
On this Day
Distance: 7 km
Today's hike will be quite short, taking us from Chukurak Lake to the valley of Artuch. Then we begin the ascent to Kulikalon, which is located on a beautiful plateau at 2800 meters altitude. The vertical ascent of the climb is 700 meters. Kulikalon is a perfect paradise for wild camping, which is exactly what we are going to do tonight. The area where we camp is covered with lakes and provides an excellent opportunity for short walks for those with enough energy to explore in the afternoon.
Day 08: Crossing Alauddin Pass 3780 m
On this Day
Distance: 11 km
The final section of the walk crosses Alauddin Pass at 3780 meters, which is only a few meters lower than the trek's highest point on Day 4, Dukdon Pass. The top of the pass offers spectacular views of Kulikalon on one side and Alauddin Lake on the other. The descent from the pass brings us to Alauddin Lake, one of Tajikistan's most beautiful lakes. Several other deep azure blue lakes surround Alauddin Lake. The night is spent camping on the shores of Alauddin Lake.
