From Mutnyi Lake, the route climbs steeply. We steadily gain altitude. Today, we cross the 4000-meter mark. After a 900-meter vertical increase, we arrive at our overnight campsite on the eastern face of Chimtarga Pass, which is roughly 4400 meters high. The night can be extremely cold at the trek's highest campground.
Day 04: Chimtarga Pass & Bolshoi Allo Lake
On this Day
Distance: 8 km
Today, the trek becomes very tough as the elevations rise dramatically. The final section of Chimtarga Pass is a narrow and steep rocky trail. Chimtarga Pass offers stunning views after a 350-meter vertical rise. From 4750 meters, you can see practically the entire Fann Mountains from a birds-eye perspective. After taking in the vistas and collecting our breath, we descend 1600 meters along the western flank. After the day, we pitch our tents on the shores of the massive Bolshoi Allo Lake at 3150 meters.
Day 05: Malo Allo Lake & Archamaidan Valley
On this Day
Distance: 12 km
From Bolshoi Allo, we proceed down the valley. On the way down, we pass by Malo Allo Lake, which has beautiful emerald colors. We pitch our tents along the Archamaidan River at the valley's bottom.
Day 06: Sarymat Valley
On this Day
Distance: 13 km
We travel upstream from our camp next to the Archamaidan River until we reach Duoba, which is the confluence with the Sarymat. We next proceed into the valley of the Sarymat River. Throughout the day, the trail gradually ascends. We pitched camp along the Sarymat River at an elevation of 2450 meters.
Day 07: Crossing Tavasang Pass
On this Day
Distance: 13 km
The seventh day begins by ascending the Tavasang Pass (3300 m). The last significant climb has a total rise of 850 meters. After crossing the top, we descend to the valley of Haft Kul, which means 'Seven Lakes' in Tajik. Haft Kul's seven lakes are arranged in a progressive sequence down a valley. The current campsite is located on the bank of the seventh and highest lake.
Day 08: Return to Dushanbe
On this Day
Today, we will drive back to Dushanbe. The initial half of the return trip is a picturesque drive via Haft Kul's lower six lakes. If everyone still has energy, they can walk down this road before getting into the car. In Dushanbe, you will be dropped off at your preferred location. The travel back takes roughly six hours.
