On the second day, we continue our trek deeper into the highlands. We spend the entire day driving on the Pamir Highway along the banks of the Panj River, which forms the boundary between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. You are treated to the first sights of the beautiful Pamir mountains. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Khorog (2100 m), where we spend the night.

On this Day

The morning might be spent exploring Khorog's local attractions. In the afternoon, we drive up to a botanical park with a stunning view of Khorog. After that, we drive for almost three hours to the mountain settlement of Bachor. In Bachor, we spent the night in a homestay.

Distance: 17 km

The main hike begins on the fourth day. From Bachor, we hike through the Gunt River Valley. The path remains largely flat throughout the day. In the afternoon, we set up camp near the river for our first night under the stars.

On this Day

Distance: 18 km

We continue our journey through a vast valley to the north. If all goes well, you can take a short diversion to enjoy a spectacular view of Yashilkul Lake. Today we will confront our first uphill stretches. However, the slowly ascending track is not particularly challenging. The campsite for the night is located along the river that flows through the valley.

On this Day

Distance: 14 km

Today we ascend to 4000 meters in altitude. We then climb 500 meters down a side valley to the lake of Chapdarkul, which is at 4500 meters altitude. We pitch our tents on the coast of Chapdarkul for the night. Outside temperatures at 4500 meters can be extremely cold at night.

On this Day

Distance: 12 km

Today's hike continues at extremely high heights. From Chapdarkul, we ascend further higher to cross a pass at 4700 meters. The trek leads through a series of small mountain lakes before arriving at Tsaxinkul Lake. We established our camp around 4300 meters on the beach of Tsaxinkul.

On this Day

Distance: 18 km

Day 8 might be used to explore Zarojkul and the surrounding lakes. We may leave our tents in Tsaxinkul and set forth without having to carry hefty bags. Zarojkul, with its stunning blue colors, is a Pamir Mountains must-see destination. After the day, we return to our former campground.

On this Day

Distance: 16 km

We begin our journey back to civilization. The journey today takes you down through the valley of the Andaravadzh river. Hot springs can be found in the valley. We spend the night in tents by the river.

On this Day

Distance: 11 km

Continuing down the valley brings us to the Gunt River and then back to the settlement of Bachor. We spend the night at a guesthouse in Bachor (3300 m).

On this Day

We leave Bachor in the early morning by car for the first leg of the journey back to Dushanbe. Today we will go to Qal'ai Khumb, where we will spend the night in a hostel. It takes roughly ten hours to drive the picturesque Pamir Highway.

On this Day

The final day's travel back to Dushanbe takes approximately 8 hours. The arrival in Dushanbe is in the evening. In Dushanbe, you are dropped off at your selected destination.

Overview – Tajikistan National Park Trek

The Tajikistan National Park Trek is an exceptional trip into the heart of the Pamir Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its breathtaking natural splendor. This circle journey allows hikers to explore some of Central Asia’s most pristine and undisturbed scenery. The journey starts in the beautiful village of Bachor and continues via breathtaking valleys, brilliant blue lakes, and towering snow-capped summits.

The trail passes three stunning lakes—Chapdarkul, Tsaxinkul, and Zarojkul—whose deep blue waters contrast strongly with the harsh, arid terrain surrounding them. The route also includes a tough but rewarding crossing of a 4,700-meter mountain pass, from where hikers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding alpine scenery.

While the walk reaches high altitudes, the elevation fluctuations are minimal, making it suitable for individuals with some hiking experience but do not require advanced mountaineering abilities. Along the journey, hikers will be treated to the calm splendor of alpine meadows, untamed rivers, and the tranquility of lonely mountain living. The area is also home to a diverse range of fauna and unusual flora, adding to its allure.

The Tajikistan National Park Trek provides an unprecedented opportunity to immerse oneself in one of the world’s most remote and stunning locations, ideal for anyone seeking authentic adventure in the Pamirs.
