Itinerary – Pamir Highway Tour

The itinerary for the Pamir Highway Tour is given below.

On this Day

Distance: 270 km, 7-8 hours

Leaving Kalai-Khumb (Darvaz) and going to Khorog. Enjoy the daily lives of Afghans across the Panj (Oxsus) River. Take images of Afghan communities; some are very near to the road. A brief halt at Porshinev at the monument of Nosiri Khusraw, one of the greatest Persian poets and an important Muslim scholar of the tenth century.

After lunch and a rest in the hotel, take a tour of Khorog, including the State Historical Museum, Khorog Ismaili Center, City Park, and the Tourism Information Center. Overnight at a hotel in Khorog.

Altitudes above sea level during the day: 1295 m in Kalaikhumb at the beginning and 2100m in Khorog at the end.

On this Day

Distance: 246 km, 10-12 hours

Going to Ishkashim. On the route, take a short break to relax in the Garm-Chashma hot springs and admire the famous Kuhi La'l ruby mines in Badakhshan from a distance. Driving to the Wakhan Valley. Visit the ruins of the Kah-Kaha and Yamchun fortifications, the Bibi Fatima hot spring, pre-Islamic shrines, the private Museum of Sufi Muboraki Wakhoni/solar calendar, astronomer and scholar of the nineteenth century, and, if time permits, the Langar petroglyphs. Overnight in a guesthouse in Hisor village.

Daytime altitudes above sea level: 2100m at Khorog, 3200m at Yamchun Fort, and 2800m in Langar.

On this Day

Distance:  275 km, 12-14 hours  

Driving to Khargush Pass (4344m), then to Burunkul and Yashikul Lakes. Burunkul village, located near the lakes, is the coldest place in the Central Asia region. In the winter, temperatures can drop to minus 60.

Lunch outside or at a restaurant in the Alichur community. Tourists in Alichur typically take a two-hour Yak ride, which should be scheduled beforehand. Drive to Bashgumbez, then to Murgab. On the way, stop in Ak Baliq to visit the Chinese cemetery from a distance. Stay overnight in Murgab at a homestay or hotel.

During the day, the altitudes above sea level are as follows: Langar at 2800m, the highest point at 4344m on Khargush Pass, and Murgab at 3630m.

On this Day

Distance: 200 km, 8–9 hours

Leaving Murghab and heading to Rangkul and Shorkul lakes. In the afternoon, visit Tajikistan's largest lake, Karakul ('Black Lake').

Continue driving to Karakul village across the Pamir Highway's highest point, the Ak-Baital pass (4656 meters). Take some shots and use caution, as you are 4656 meters above sea level—a brief excursion to see the Karaart geoglyphs (8th-3rd century BC). In the evening, go hiking near Karakul Lake. Spend the night in Karakul village at a guesthouse or yurt.

During the day, the altitude above sea level is 3630m at Murgab, the highest point - 4656m on Ak-Baital pass, and 3930m in Karakul.

On this Day

Distance: 450 km, 10-12 hours

Drive back to Murgab, then to Alichur via the Pamir Highway. Stop by Chater Tash and Bashgumbez to take photos. Then drive to Khorog via the Ghunt Valley. If time allows, speak with the guide/driver and have a soak in Jelondi hot springs. Night in Khorog.

During the day, the altitude above sea level is 3930m at Karakul, 4656m on Ak Baital pass, and 2100m in Khorog.

On this Day

Distance: 100 km, drive: 3 hrs, and trekking: 3 hrs

We are Leaving Khorog and heading to Bartang Valley. We will stop at the Bartang River Bridge. Then, we will leave the car with the driver and trek for 2-3 hours to Jizev village (7 kilometers).

In the afternoon, explore the village and hike around the little lakes. The people are kind and eager to interact with visitors. Overnight in a guesthouse in Jizev village, 132km.

During the day, altitudes above sea level range from 2100m in Khorog to 2500m in Jizev.

On this Day

Distance: 230 km, 7–8 hours

Hike down to the main road and drive your automobile. Continue heading towards Kalai-Khumb town. On the trip, enjoy the scenery of the Afghan villages along the Panj River. Also, see the Womar Fortress in Rushan and the Karon Fort in Darvaz. Overnight at a guesthouse in Kalai-Khumb. 225km.

During the day, altitudes above sea level ranged from 2500m in Jizev to 1250m in Darvoz.

On this Day

Distance: 300 km, 8-10 hours

Traveling north to Dushanbe via the Sagirdasht pass (3252 m) and Tavildara District. In Darvaz, the driver should check to see if the road is open, as it may be closed at times.

At Goluboye Ozero ('Blue Lake'), make a quick halt to stretch your legs. From a distance, you can see the construction of the largest hydropower station in Central Asia, Roghun, which has the world's highest dam at 335 meters.

Altitudes above sea level during the day: at the beginning – Darvoz 1250m, at the end – Dushanbe 780m, The highest point – Sagirdasht pass 3252m.
