Overview – Dudipatsar Lake Trek

The Dudipatsar Lake is a captivating excursion into the heart of the Kaghan Valley, providing travelers with an unmatched experience of natural beauty and tranquility. Dudipatsar water, located at a height of 3900 meters, is suitably called by the local names “dudi” (white or milky), “pat” (mountains), and “SAR” (water), reflecting the pristine, snow-capped peaks that surround it and give the lake its distinctive milky aspect. This walk is more than simply getting to the lake; it’s about immersing oneself in the different ecosystems, stunning vistas, and traditional way of life that has mostly remained unaffected by contemporary technology.

The trip begins in Islamabad when trekkers are taken to the village of Besal, located 3250 meters above sea level. The trip itself is a visual feast, laying the groundwork for the delights to follow. The walk begins at Besal, and hikers set off on the first stage of their journey to Mula Ki Basti after spending the night there. This section of the walk is 10 kilometers long and normally takes 6-8 hours, depending on individual fitness levels. The path is full of natural beauty, including lush green meadows, colorful wildflowers, and several streams. Hikers may also come across grazing cattle and picturesque villages where the residents live in harmony with nature, relying on natural resources for their survival.

When trekkers get to Mula Ki Basti, they pitch their tents and take advantage of the peaceful surroundings to relax and recharge. The following day is spent touring Dudipatsar Lake and its surroundings. The lake’s crystal-clear waters reflect the snow-covered mountains, creating a breathtaking and serene sight. For those looking for an extra challenge, an optional climb to Saral Pass provides even more stunning vistas and a sense of accomplishment. Hikers may take the day in the area’s natural beauty and tranquil ambiance before returning to their campground at Mula Ki Basti for the night.

The last day of the journey begins early, with hikers retracing their route back to Besal. This descent normally takes around 4 hours, giving you plenty of time to soak in the views on the way back. After freshening up at Moon Restaurant in Besal, the party drives back to Islamabad, stopping at Kaghan for lunch. The walk ends when participants arrive in Islamabad, generally around 9:00 PM, leaving them with lasting recollections of the breathtaking scenery, the companionship of their fellow trekkers, and a profound sense of accomplishment.

The Dudipatsar Lake Trek is the ideal combination of physical difficulty and environmental majesty, providing an escape into a realm where nature’s beauty reigns supreme. It is a voyage that not only highlights the gorgeous Dudipatsar Lake but also offers an intimate view of a way of life that coexists with the natural environment.
